There is an increasing interest in mobile photo sharing, and Instagram makes it easy. Instagram is gaining new users by the second, and is a fun and free way to share photos. We take a look at Instagram and why it is so popular!
Instagram is a photo sharing software that was released in 2010
allowing users to take a photo, apply a digital filter to it, and
then share it with the world. Its quick, easy and you
can share photos of pretty much anything you like at the click of a
button. Whether it be your brand new Nike sneakers, your favourite
winter woollies or even what you had for dinner.
Instagram has a number of cool features that make sharing photos
fun - digital filters can make a boring photo come
alive, hashtags help users discover other photos and other
users, and captions make it easier for users to understand the
reasoning behind posting a picture of a half-eaten muesli bar.
Its popularity has soared and it reached a whopping 40 million
users early this year with hundreds of users signing up every
second.
Recently Mark Zuckerbrg bought Instagram for around
a billion dollars, which is double what it is currently worth.
Zuckerberg thought it would be worth bringing the two
companies together to give users the best photo sharing experience
possible. Facebook and Instagram will continue to be treated as two
separate companies. All the fun things that create a unique
experience on Instragram will stay the same, but we can now share
the beautiful mobile photos we take with our friends on
Facebook.
Instagram users are growing by the minute:
Each day on Facebook 300 million photos are
uploaded
Instagram gains one new user every second
One billion photos have been taken with the
app
There are roughly 58 photos uploaded each
second
Instragram was launched on the Apple App store in
October 2010. By December 2010 there were one millions users, it
took Twitter two years to reach this milestone
As of April 2012, there are now more than 30
million users register
